The Gelfing Arts Summer Camp

The Cabaret Voltaire Societe & Diversions Gelfling Arts Summer Camp is an opportunity to connect the local Victoria arts community with children with different abilities for creative learning opportunity.

Located on the University of Victoria Campus, and supported by the The Cabaret Voltaire Societe & Diversions UVSS Sister Student Club, the Gelfling Arts Camp is also a volunteer opportunity for Psychology and Social Science Undergraduate students.

The Cabaret Voltaire Societe & Diversions Gelfling Arts Summer Camp is a one weekday camp for a group of 10-20 children of all abilities in between the ages 6-10. Each day will include an enriched schedule of creative programing framed around the local guest artist of the day. The week ends with a group art show featuring all the work the participating children created over the course of the week. This final day is very special because not only do the children and parents get to enjoy all the creativity of the week but also there is an opportunity for parents to meet the all teaching artists and each child is awarded with a little diploma!

The great part about local artists teaching local children is the bond and community connections that are being built. The artists in our community often are educators and are well versed in an artistic medium they use themselves. By inviting them to share their art and creative process based on what they make is a unique and inspiring way to teach children and youth how to paint or work with mixed media. It is very similar in how specialized academics on the university campus will teach courses based on their field of study.
